Our mandate was to create a digital solution for Gris Québec, a non-profit organization that aims to demystify sexual and gender diversity. The organization offers conferences for schools but also a pairing service for young people who need help during their coming-out.

We targeted four user groups and several problems related to each group. We chose ultimately to create a solution for the most vulnerable group, the young people of the LGBTQIA+ community.

The issue: «The waiting time between the request for pairing and the beginning of the service is very long», which can cause more serious problems such as isolation. Our solution is to create an online support community to make the service easier to access and more appealing to adolescents. By doing so, we reduced the number of steps before using the service and avoided having the youth go through a heavy school-run process that can be intimidating.

We had the idea of adding a chatbot to their website and their social media platforms to facilitate a first point of contact. Further research was done in order to fully understand and use it to its full potential.

On how to engage with teenagers, we were inspired by existing applications such as Tinder and Messenger. The app will help the teenager match with a social worker or a mentor based on the criteria submitted through a form by the User in the early process of subscription. The application will still leave the ultimate choice of intervener to the User according to the results. It is important that the user be as comfortable as possible to talk easily.

A community is then available for the User whilst waiting for his/her/their intervener to connect. The community is very useful to break the isolation and marginalization of the LGBTQ+ people.
